Whistler summer

The Crystal Lodge in Whistler - www.Crystal-Lodge.com

As a professional speaker, I’m on the road all the time. I stay at about 50 different hotels every year. At first, they all seem really nice but after a while they all feel pretty much the same. Most of the time the rooms are really nice and the service is OK.

That’s why I was so pleasantly surprised when I stayed at the Crystal Lodge Hotel in Whistler, British Columbia last November. I was in Whistler for luge training at the Olympic track and booked the Crystal Lodge out of the internet.

Right away I knew there was something different about this hotel. I arrived at about 3:00 AM after a 2 hour drive from Vancouver. Phil, the man in charge of the front desk was genuinely friendly and helpful. It was real friendliness. Not fake smiles.

Then, throughout the week I noticed that EVERYONE at the hotel was friendly. Even the housekeepers greeted me when I walked down the hall. They all made eye contact, said something nice, and even gave me “right of way” as I walked down the hallways.

I was impressed because that level of customer service is not common in hotels. I was so impressed that I wanted to meet Bryan Pilbeam, the general manager. Bryan is a great guy. He genuinely cares about his people and he teaches his crew how to make the Crystal Logdge’s guests’ experience something to remember.

I’m writing this from my room in the Crystal Lodge. Yes, I’m staying here again while I’m at the Luge World Cup race. And I hope to stay here again whenever I return to Whistler.

PS - I just read an article on USA Today about how the hotel industry is really hurting right now in this crazy economy. I believe that while other hotels may be hurting, the Crystal Lodge will gain market share in this recession. Crystal Lodge, keep doing what you’re doing!
