Smart Lion Tamer (read why below)
Why does a lion tamer use a chair to tame a lion? Couldn’t the lion simply swat the chair away and attack the lion tamer?
The secret behind it is that it turns the lion’s greatest advantage into its greatest weakness. Lions have an incredible ability to focus. They are great hunters because they can track their prey with incredible precision. But when they are faced with the chair, their potential “prey” becomes four.
The lion sees the four legs and attempts to hone in on these new targets. His attention moves from one leg to another like a fast moving clock. He becomes so preoccupied trying to follow the four legs that he becomes confused and can’t move. It is simply too much for the lion to absorb. His inability to focus has caused him to be still. Stopped him on his tracks. Paralyzed him.
Sounds like people trying to get ten things done while answering emails, phone calls, and surfing the internet at the same time.
Are you trying to focus on too many things? Are you trying to multitask your way to the top? Has your “to do” list paralyzed you?
We are wired just like lions. As soon as we try to focus on more than one thing, our effectiveness and productivity plummet. Start doing what Thomas Edison did. Divide your day into five 90 minute chunks and focus 100% of your time to one task for 90 minutes. Take a short break (10 minutes), and focus the next 90 minutes on the next task.
The hours will fly along and most importantly, you’ll accomplish more than ever before.
